IN ORDER TO DO THIS, PLEASE GO HERE: www.jaimalayalam.com/font.htm If you still cannot read the font used on this site, try using Varamozhi. If neither of these work, try using a different browser. (For example, the fonts may not display on Mozilla Firebird. So if you use Mozilla, you might want to use Internet Explorer, Netscape, or Crazy Browser.)
ALSO, if you're using Internet Explorer, Netscape, or Mozilla, you MUST use "User Defined" font by going Before We Go Anywhere...

Finnish School is an online tool to help you learn the Finnish language. How does it work? It primarily works as a vocabulary builder. Imagine taking all your flashcards and making them into a fun online game. You will be given 20-25 words in either Finnish or English. At first you can use multiple choice. Once you're comfortable with that you type in the word directly. And once you're comfortable with that you take a quiz on those words and move on to a new set of words. How many vocabulary words are there? Currently there are over 4,600 Finnish words. More are always being added. Finnish School tracks your progress The online tool keeps track of your progress and remembers which word sets you've completed. Login from any computer and continue from where you left off. Why do I need to sign-up? For two reasons: Finnish School needs to know who you are so it can remember which word sets you've completed. Secondly, in case you forgot your username/password, it can e-mail it to you. I don't like giving away my e-mail address I hate giving mine away too, but I can promise that your e-mail address and account info will NEVER EVER leave Finnish School. Does this cost anything? Finnish School has been free for four years now, but because of expensive server costs, I'm asking for a small 5 euro donation. The first three levels are completely free - if you find the web site useful and would like to learn more, I feel 5 euros is a small amount to ask.

The name of this site – Armazi – is that of one of the main gods of the people of ancient Kartli (Iberia) in the South Caucasus. Armazi was proclaimed supreme royal god by the first Kartlian king, Parnavaz I, in the fourth century BCE. An old tradition credits Parnavaz I with devising the first Georgian script. Armazi is also the name of a fortress near modern Mtskheta that dates from the same period.
"Armazi, god of gods..., the great gods, conquerors of the world, lighters of the sun, givers of rain, who cause the fruits of the earth to grow..."
The illustration is of a bronze beltclasp dating from the South Caucasian Early Iron Age (late second / early first millennium BCE) depicting anthropomorphized gods hunting deer and fabulous beasts.
The information contained on these pages is believed to be correct at the time of publication.

Finnish has notorious reputation of being a difficult language. Is this true? What is 'a difficult language'? We all learn a mother tongue as children as a matter of course. Finnish children learn Finnish as easily as their counterparts in other countries learn their mother tongue. In this sense Finnish is no more difficult than any other language. But, of course, when people talk about 'a difficult language', what they really mean is a language that is thought to be particularly difficult for a foreign adult learner.
In this article I discuss some features of Finnish which in my experience as a teacher of Finnish to foreigners for many years are perceived as difficult, but in reality are simply different, for example, from English. To illustrate this difference I shall start with some historical background. Secondly, I shall discuss certain points of grammar: phonology (the sound system and pronunciation), morphology (how Finnish words are put together), and syntax (what is special about Finnish sentences). Finally, I shall suggest why and how Finnish has gained its reputation as 'a difficult language'

How to use the online Hawaiian language dictionary
Want to look up a word? Just type it in where it says "Enter Word."
Hint: the typed-in word can be Hawaiian or English. Hint: you might need to click in the white space near "Enter Word" before typing. Hint: after typing in the word, instead of using the mouse to click on "look it up," just hit the Enter key (for PCs) or the Return key (for Macs). Hint: as long as one of the settings to the right says "other characters," you do NOT have to enter special characters for a Hawaiian word. Example: look up "alii" or "ohana." In each case the computer will give you the word and also its correct spelling (aliʻi and ʻohana). Note: the computer will give you different

What do Santa Claus, saunas, suicides, IRC, ammonium chloride, vowels with lots of cute dots on them, reindeer, Nokia cell phones, and gold-medalist ski jumpers who have recently turned into porn stars all have in common? That's right -- they're all Finnish! Who needs sexist languages such as English when Finnish provides the gender-neutral word hän, which translates as "he or she"? Finnish (or Suomi) is also a much more compact language than English:
You will be able to have some of my apples = Saat omenoitani.
Perhaps not surpsisingly, Finnish is not related to any of the Indo-European languages. Hungarian, Estonian, and Sami (Laplander) are some of its closest living relatives.
Impress your friends at parties with Finnish linguistic trivia! Here is a collection of indispensable phrases to use (and not to use!) while mingling with the restless natives during your travels though Finland, from Hanko to Ivalo!

Hebrew is one of the world's oldest languages, spoken and written today in much the same way as it was more than two thousand years ago. After ceasing to exist as a spoken 1anguage about 250 B.C., it was reborn as a modern language in the 19th century, and today it is the principal language of the State of Israel. Books, newspapers, and magazines published in Israel today are written in a Hebrew that is much the same as the language of the Bible. For over three millennia Hebrew has been the religious, and often the literary and secular, language of the Jewish people. A Semitic tongue, it was spoken during the period of the migration of the Patriarchs into Palestine and remained the language of the Jews throughout the Old Testament period. In the post biblical period Hebrew gradually gave way to Aramaic as the spoken language, but continued throughout the centuries to serve as the language of ritual and prayer.

The renaissance of Hebrew as a spoken language in the 19th century may be ascribed almost entirely to the efforts of one man: Eliezer ben Yehudah, who devoted his life to the revival of the language, and at the same time adapted it for modern use through the introduction of thousands of modern terms. Hebrew gradually came into use among the Jewish settlers in Palestine and became the official language of the State of Israel when that nation was created in 1948. Today about 3 million people speak Hebrew either as their maternal, adopted, or religious tongue.
