The Public Affairs Section of the US Embassy in Amman opened the American Language Center (ALC) in 1989 to provide English language training in the context of American education and culture. The ALC has since evolved into a state-of-the-art English teaching program based on the most current American educational practices. We encourage our students to participate in the learning process and have fun while learning to use English in both professional and social situations. We emphasize the use of computers and the Internet in our classrooms and have available for our students an extensive Computer Lab.

We provide our students flexible schedules and choices in what language skills to develop. Students can study in a non-intensive program (36 hours in 8 weeks) or in an intensive program (72 hours in 8 weeks). They can focus on reading and writing or speaking and listening. There is always the option to focus on all the language skills together in our daily, intensive program.
