Danish

Danish is one of the North Germanic languages, a sub-group of the Germanic branch of the Indo-European languages. It is spoken by around 6 million people, mainly in Denmark; the language is also used by the 50,000 Danes in the northern parts of Schleswig-Holstein in Germany, where it holds the status of minority language. Danish also holds official status and is a mandatory subject in school in the Danish autonomous territories of Greenland and the Faroe Islands, which now enjoy limited autonomy.
This site is the first ever to allow you to learn Danish using instant sound.

Danish is the official language of Denmark, Greenland and the Faeroe Islands. Both Greenland and the Faeroe Islands have their own language too, which most of the people speak but Danish is used for official purposes and taught in schools.Danish is also spoken by 20,000 people just south of the German border. It goes back to the time before 1864 when the area belonged to Denmark, and the Danish minority south of the German border is very keen on preserving the Danish language. In Icelandic schools, too, the first foreign language to be taught is Danish. That serves as a way of communicating with the other Scandinavian countries.

The International Education Program (IEP) offers courses and lectures in English in Copenhagen and Hellerup/Gentofte. Whether you are relocating to the area or have lived in Copenhagen for years, the IEP provides the opportunity to attend stimulating and entertaining courses. Our curriculum includes a core of courses to familiarize foreigners with Danish society, culture and history. Participants gain essential knowledge to help them better understand and adapt to their new surroundings.

The IEP provides a place where foreign residents can pursue their interests and, at the same time, have the opportunity to network and socialize. Danes, too, participate in the IEP as they enjoy using their English and meeting people from many nations. The international nature of the group leads to immensely interesting exchanges during discussion periods.

Both Danes and non-Danes residing in Denmark teach IEP courses. We are always on the lookout for new course ideas and instructors to add to our course offerings. Instructors do not need a work permit.
