Beijing BISS International School was founded in 1994 by its sister school, International School Singapore (ISS), as an independent proprietary, co-educational, English-language day school offering an international curriculum for Kindergarten to Grade 12 students from the expatriate community of Beijing. The 11,000 square meter campus is close to central Beijing and the Asian Games Village.

BISS is the first International School licensed by The Beijing Educational Commission, is a member of the Council of International Schools (CIS) and is accredited by Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and the National Centre for Curriculum and Textbook Development (NCCT), Ministry of Education, China. The International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) has granted BISS authorisation to run the IB Primary Years Programme (IBPYP), IB Middle Years Programme (IBMPY), and the IB Diploma (IBDP).

Nearly 400 students from 42 different nationalities attend the School. An active Parent Teacher Association supports the School and its community. The weekly newsletter, Broadcast and a constantly expanding website keep parents informed of school affairs.

Located conveniently near one of the major expatriate residential areas, BISS is situated in cnetral Beijing just off the North Third Ring Road (Bei Sanhuan Lu). Play areas, a running track, and multi-purpose courts for basketball, football, hockey, and volleyball are accessible to students. there are also indoor PE and function rooms for all-season activities.

The main building contains more than thirty classrooms, a library with over 25,000 volumes, music studios, science and 3 computer laboratories, resource rooms, Design and Technology suite, art rooms and administration offices. Next to the main building, there is a multi-purpose annex that houses the cafeteria and school hall. The annex is also used for student assemblies, stage shows, games and other activities. The Stirling Hall is used as an indoor PE room for Elementary school students.

BISS has a private school clinic situated on the second floor of the building. The clinic has a qualified doctor who provides medical services for BISS students and staff.

The BISS academic year consists of two semesters. The first semester starts in August and ends mid December. The second semester runs from January to June. The three major holiday periods during the year are the Christmas & New Year Holidays, the Spring Holidays and the Summer Holidays. National holidays are also observed.

BISS faculty members hail from the USA, Canada, Australia, Korea, New Zealand, Singapore, China, the Philippines, Portugal, and the U.K. Teachers hold degrees, are licensed in their home countreis and are experienced in international education.
