The Intercultural Institute of California (IIC) has grown out of 30 years of experience in providing training to Bay Area residents. It began with the Korean Center, Inc. whose history started in 1975 with the incorporation of an independent, non-profit, community-based organization under the name of "Multi-Service Center for Koreans (MSCK)." In 1991, IIC was founded by KCI to fill a growing need for educational opportunities in the community at large.
The following timeline of KCI/IIC's history includes a representative sampling of the many activities and programs that have made KCI & IIC the dynamic organizations that they are today. Program funders are listed in parenthesis.

PC TECH is located on 42nd Street and Madison Avenue in Manhattan, right next to Grand Central Terminal. Grand Central Terminal has been transformed from a mere train terminal to one of the “must-see” places in New York City.
Look Up, But Don’t StumbleThere is beauty all around at Grand Central Terminal, including straight up! When you head to Grand Central Terminal, make sure you look up in the Main Concourse. You might want to be standing still when you do, as the constellations on the ceiling can get you dizzy, and it wouldn’t be good to bump into a hurried passenger! The ceiling has been painted to look like the night sky, and many famous constellations are there, including Orion, the hunter, and Pegasus, the winged horse.
Electricity Is Romantic? Some of the starts in the ceiling are lit with electricity, so that they can be seen easily, day or night. Looking at the domed ceiling during the daytime is amazing, but the entire view changes as dusk falls. The lit stars make for a very romantic setting, and in a city where the buildings block the view of the sky sometimes, New Yorkers have to take advantage of the sky, whether real or painted, wherever they can get it!
The Main ConcourseDirectly inside the building is the area known as the Main Concourse. This is a huge area that is generally filled with crowds. There is an information booth right in the middle of the Main Concourse as well as a clock that has a face in every direction, which is very well-known. The face of the clocks are made from the semi-precious stone, Opal, and the clock itself has been valued to be worth between $10 and $20 million dollars.
Being An Engineer, The Easy WayThe New York Transit Museum is located inside of Grand Central Terminal as well. This museum is focused on showing visitors exactly how trains got started. There are workshops and a resource center. The museum has the honor of being the largest museum in the entire United States to be devoted to the history of public transportation! It makes sense, in a way, that if you are going to be riding on the train, you may as well understand how it works! Is There A Garden In There?Grand Central Market is located on the main concourse level. Grand central market has a number of active shops, including Penzey’s Spices, where you can buy any spice for much less than it costs you in a grocery store. Greenwich Produce is at the end of Grand Central Market, and is filled with some of the freshest produce in New York City. Imagine, fresh produce in a train station! It would only happen in New York.
A True New York Meal…Quick and EasyFor a quick meal, you can grab some bread at Zaro’s Bread Basket, some cheese at Murray’s Cheese, a cup of coffee at Oren’s Daily Roast, and some chocolate for dessert at Li-Lac Chocolates. Unlike the center of New York, where you have to travel blocks to find specialty stores, Grand Central Market has them all located, very conveniently, steps away from each other!
What’s An Oyster Bar?One level down from the Main Concourse is the Dining Concourse. This area is where all of the fast food outlets, and restaurants, are housed. The world famous Oyster Bar is probably the most well known restaurant in the Dining Concourse. It was begun in 1913 and has since become known as the best place to get seafood in New York. Back then, many of the high-society New Yorkers were the only ones to frequent the restaurant, but now anyone who makes a reservation and wants to buy good food can have a meal there.
Dunking The BeefMichael Jordan, the dunking master, decided one day that he wanted to have his own restaurant. Instead of creating a beautiful, gourmet restaurant somewhere in Los Angeles, he decided to open Michael Jordan’s Steak House in New York City. And, realizing that sometimes train riders get extremely hungry, decided to locate it in Grand Central Terminal. The steak house has a delicious menu to choose from, whether you’re a carnivore or vegetarian, and an extensive list of wines to choose from. Founded in the late 1980's originally as "Boston Home Language" and then incorporated in 1990 as ALP, American Language Programs is a private homestay program with intensive English language instruction wherein students stay in the homes of their American teachers. Within their program they receive individualized teaching according to their level in English. The emphasis of our program is that students have the opportunity to “practice what is preached!” In other words, their entire stay is practice in using English. Their teacher and homestay host is a very qualified teacher usually with many years of training/experience and one or more academic degrees from well-known American colleges and/or universities. Students become immersed in the daily lives of their families and practice English their entire stay. Lessons are private (one-on-one) and scheduled at the discretion of teacher/student but usually during morning hours. Meals and trips are with teachers and their host family. This method of perfecting a second language has proven to be very successful. Numerous studies support this. Why don’t you join us on an adventure of a lifetime? Learn the language of the world, English, and share in an American experience!
Selected side-trips to neighboring cities are available through arrangements with your ALP teachers and ALP Corporate Office. These trips will be at an added, reasonable cost, per student and subject to the time of year and interests of students.

Capstone English Mastery Center is a small, private, nonprofit school. We are dedicated to teaching English and academic business subjects to international students. We have been under our present management since 1961.
We have pioneered innovative instructional methods and school management techniques such as Individualized Mastery Learning, a multi-sensory, self-paced learning environment in which the schedule and curriculum are adjusted to the needs of each individual student, rather than the student fitting into the school's arbitrary schedule.
Most of our students are studying to pass the TOEFL or TOEIC, but many also wish to improve their English simply for business or personal reasons, or to pass GED, GRE, or GMAT tests. For information about getting an I-20 form to apply for a student visa,

Rennert Bilingual was founded in 1973 by César Rennert, a former faculty member at New York University. Mr. Rennert's mission was to create a high quality language school that offered small classes with a focus on conversational teaching methods.
"We wanted an alternative from the way languages were taught at the university level," Mr. Rennert says. "We were forced to teach lots of grammar there, there was very little conversation in class, and the large number of students in classes made learning a language difficult."
Rennert started with one classroom, one teacher and one language. Thirty-three years later, César Rennert's small enterprise has grown into a hub of international education and communication in New York City, Miami and Cyprus in the near future.
